Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka is an American-British musician and sitarist. She was first of her generation to receive an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka is the new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is both the daughter and student of Ravi Shankar. Born in 1982, she was raised in London. Her childhood years included a period of time in London as well as New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. Then she relocated to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha continues to have a bright performing and recording careers, despite being young. She is often seen performing alongside her father and has done so for quite a number of years. She has released Anourag her first solo album in 1998. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. The stage is a very significant part of her work. She's played in many important venues across the globe. Anoushka isn't only a singer. She published Bapi the Love of My Life in the year 2002. This is a picture biography that pays tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in films in 2003 she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she is a young Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging star and her career is expected to continue growing. Anoushka is a native of England however, she spent the majority of her growing up in between London in the UK and Delhi. She then moved to California and enrolled in the high school. At the age of nine, she started studying music with her father making her performing debut with the sitar 4 years later, at his birthday party in Delhi. Anoushka's father toured around the world with her and she gained many opportunities. When she was still in her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concert. As a tribute to her status as a leading musician of Asian Arts, she was presented with the House of Commons Shield by British Parliament.
